How women shaped the Nordic Enlightenment I

The conference How Women Shaped the Nordic Enlightenment I aims to uncover the role of women in the Nordic Enlightenment and more particularly the ways in which women participated in the public debate about equality.

For this reason, this conference will focus on the role of religion and moral philosophy in debates about gender equality. While women have slowly begun to be incorporated into histories of European philosophy, the role of Scandinavian women is still largely overlooked. With this conference, we would like to contribute to a wider European debate by showcasing the ways Nordic women took part in the European quest for women’s rights and equality.
