Author Meets Critics: Gender and Career in Academia

Debate about how gender impacts the success or lack, therefore, of scholars in Danish universities.

Occasioned by the recent publication of the book Køn og Karriere i Akademia: Bag Facaden by Margaretha Järvinen (professor of sociology, University of Copenhagen) and Nanna Mik-Meyer (professor of organization, Copenhagen Business School), we at the INSPIRE centre welcomes a discussion about gendered obstacles in academia.

Based on Järvinen’s and Mik-Meyer’s book, we aim to establish a nuanced conversation about the ways gendered perceptions embedded in university cultures, historically and contemporarily, have favoured certain scholars, who are better at “gaming” the system as the authors call it.

The conversation will be moderated by Martin Fog Arndal (postdoc, UCPH) and the panel will consist of Nanna Mik-Meyer, Sabrina Ebbersmeyer (professor, UCPH), and Sandrine Rose Schiller Hansen (postdoc, UCPH).

After the conversation, it will be possible for the audience to ask questions.
